The Governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state. One of the activities used to accomplish this function is the administering of decisions and actions relating to military affairs and the maintenance of the state Militia. This series consists of notices to the governor informing him of the creation of new militia companies, letters requesting arms for militia companies, abstract reports from the adjutant general about the strength of the state militia, and letters from companies that deal in militia arms and supplies. Several letters from General Theophilus Lindsey Toulmin relating to his militia company, the Mobile Cadets, are also included in the series.
